Champagne Started as the Devil's Wine
Told by The Curators · July 11, 2026
The world's celebration drink started as a dangerous mistake. Cold winters in Champagne, France put the wine to sleep — it woke up in the bottle, made bubbles, and exploded so often that cellar workers wore iron masks. They called it the devil's wine. Dom Pérignon spent years trying to get rid of the bubbles… then England fell in love with the fizz, and the flaw became the whole point. 🍾✨
